Our Caboolture Hydrotherapy service is offering Exercise Physiology led Hydrotherapy services, currently operating in the heated pools at the Burpengary Aquatic & Leisure Centre on Aquatic Centre Dr. Hydrotherapy is a type of exercise therapy completed in a pool environment with a trained Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist. Hydrotherapy is a highly accessible form of therapy for chronic disease management, injury recovery, and neuro-rehabilitation.
An in-clinic initial assessment is required with a Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist to discuss your injury concern, complete assessments and complete screening to ensure suitability for hydrotherapy. A hydrotherapy plan will then be organised before commencing the first session.
Hydrotherapy can be an excellent form of therapy for a range of reasons: Pain-relief: The warmth of water, buoyancy effect and reduction in load on painful joints can make it a highly beneficial environment for completing rehabilitation for painful injuries. Improved function: The reduced load can also make it far easier to complete activities for those who struggle to perform tasks on land (eg. walking difficulties due to limb weakness).
No falling: Completing rehabilitation in water means there is very little risk of possible injury from falling, making it an excellent medium to complete exercise in for those at falls-risk or who would benefit from balance training. Improved circulation, cardiovascular function, muscle relaxation, stress reduction And many more reasons… Including fun!
Outside of our supervised Hydrotherapy sessions, your Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist may also discuss an independent Hydrotherapy program for you to complete if appropriate for your treatment plan.

What is the difference between an exercise physiologist & a physiotherapist?
Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists are similar in many aspects, both professions studying a minimum of 4 years at University to work as an Allied Health Professional across a wide range of conditions across the human lifespan.
Exercise Physiologists generally have additional training in Exercise for Chronic Disease management through exercise and are well-suited to seeing metabolic conditions. Physiotherapists will do additional training in musculoskeletal injury assessment and management and are well-suited to diagnose and treat acute injuries.
Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists both use Exercise. It is required that practitioners stay up-to-date with the latest science to incorporate into evidence based treatment plans. At Hiya Health Caboolture, our Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists work alongside eachother daily and collaborate to provide the best outcomes for their clients.

What can I expect from an initial consultation with a physiotherapist?
Your initial appointment will include a consultation with our highly trained physiotherapists to discuss your concerns and experiences. It will include a consultation to take your history, and understand your concerns, a thorough assessment, and treatment planning. Wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to move, and if you are getting a specific condition assessed, it is likely the physiotherapist may want to see that area to complete the assessment or treat the region.
What you may expect during a consultation: One of our highly trained Physiotherapists will first have a thorough conversation with you; listening to your presenting concern, asking questions about your symptoms/injury, medical history, relevant work/sporting/exercise requirements and your goals of treatment. In this time, they may read and discuss any imaging or reports where relevant. The practitioner will then perform a thorough and specific assessment of your area of concern. This may include assessing your range of movement, strength, joint integrity, and physical capacity.
Following the assessment and diagnosis the Physiotherapist will discuss the treatment options and best suitable plan to implement factoring in expected recover time and a break down of the steps involved to achieve your goals. From there, your Physiotherapist will guide you through your tailored treatment plan, utilising our excellent facilities designed to take you through your rehabilitation.
The treatment program is varied depending on the condition and your goals and may include treatments including: Injury, symptom or pain management advice Tailored exercise programming, trialled in-clinic and provided as a home/gym program Rehabilitation advice Manual therapies (including massage, joint mobilisations, manipulations, dry needling, repositioning manoeuvres for vestibular clients).
Therapeutic modalities where appropriate (eg. Electrical Stimulation, TENS, blood flow restriction training) Our Physiotherapist will follow up by providing you the Exercise Program discussed (and most often practised) in clinic, and an assurance that all information from the consultation was understood, usually in the form of a follow-up email.
