WorkCover Update for Injured Workers

An Important WorkCover Update for Injured Workers: A New Way to Lodge Your WorkCover Claim Starts July 1
If you’ve been injured at work, our focus is on getting you back to your best. To ensure your treatment and any income support can begin without delay, it’s essential to understand a key change to the WorkCover Queensland claim process, which takes effect in just a few days.
From Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the process for starting a claim is being streamlined to give you more direct control. We outline the changes below :
What are the WorkCover Changes?
This update is designed to better protect your privacy and ensure you are in control of your claim from the very beginning.
Previously, a doctor could initiate the process by sending your WorkCapacity Certificate to WorkCover. Now, the responsibility for officially lodging the claim rests with you, the injured worker.
It’s a positive step, but it’s crucial you know what to do to get your claim underway promptly.
The Importance of Lodging Promptly
WorkCover Queensland can only assess a complete claim. Any delay in submitting all the required documents together can mean a delay in the approval of your physio treatments and any eligible weekly payments.
A Note for Referring Doctors
With this change taking effect July 1, we encourage you to advise your patients on this change and the need for them to lodge their claim through the digital portal linked at the bottom of this page.
