Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy at Hiya Health

Whether your goals are tying your shoe laces, improving handwriting, accessing the community, or moving from home into independent living, our Hiya Health Occupational Therapists work with you to set goals and help you to achieve them.

Occupational Therapists have in depth knowledge of chronic health conditions such as Parkinson’s, CVA or Osteoarthritis, and diagnoses such as ASD, GDD and ADHD so we can work with you to help you achieve your NDIS goals.

Occupational Therapists are uniquely qualified to explore how people manage (function) in their everyday lives. This can be at school, work, or in the home or community. Occupational Therapists play an important part in NDIS plan reassessment, providing assessments to help participants get the funding they need. Occupational Therapists also help people to live as independently as possible through the prescription of assistive technology and home modifications.

What happens next?

Your Occupational Therapist will work with you to complete assessments to understand what activities you can do, and those you want to do, and any current limitations. We can then design and tailor your therapy program to your unique needs and preferences providing help, support and practical solution to enable you to attain your goals and also to offer advice / techniques about how to do something more easily and safely.

Our Occupational Therapists are able to meet with you to explore the challenges, set goals, and recommend AT solutions to help you achieve those goals. This might be in the home, community or the workplace.  We can also advise on government funding systems and write reports to help you apply for funding where appropriate.

Home modifications

Home modifications are specific changes made to your home, to make it easier or safer for you to live there. Home modifications can be a simple grab rail by a step, or a complete remodel to allow for wheelchair access in the home.
Our Occupational therapists are skilled in carrying out functional and environmental assessments to identify the challenge areas within your home, and recommend a range of solutions to enable to you live more independently in the ways you choose.
We can also advise on government funding options and help with reports to apply for funding under schemes such as the NDIS, DVA, or home care packages. Some of our Occupational Therapists have undergone additional training to be able to prescribe complex home mods through the NDIS. These are home modifications costing over $20,000, or those with structural changes.
